Whangamatā Medical Centre is a rural general practice serving a community of almost 5,000 enrolled patients and up to 50,000 seasonal visitors during peak holiday periods. The practice is Cornerstone Accredited, operates 24/7 as an after-hours and Primary Response in Medical Emergencies (PRIME) site, and is a leader in rural healthcare resilience, innovation, and teaching. With 12.7 FTE across 26 staff, the practice provides urgent care, chronic care management, diagnostics, wellness services, and teaching opportunities for medical and nursing students.
Established in 1980, the centre has built a reputation for clinical excellence and patient-centred care.
Whangamatā Medical Centre is a bold and innovative rural general practice providing urgent care, diagnostics, and wraparound services to a remote and highly variable population. Their equity-driven model includes solar-powered resilience, point-of-care testing, and strong local partnerships. Teaching is embedded, with future GPs and nurses learning in a supportive, real-world setting. The centre is a member of the Pinnacle Midlands Health Network, ensuring access to coordinated care and regional health resources.
Our Offer
Dependent on candidate and situation. Continuing professional education, PHO assistance, GP teaching and peer support are available. Self-contained accommodation is available by negotiation.
We expect that a candidate will be FRNZGP or equivalent or working towards that qualification.
