Location and Lifestyle
Whangamatā is located on the south eastern coast of the Coromandel Peninsula on SH25. The practice area extends from State Highway 25 (just south of Hikuai) to the north through Opoutere, Onemana and Whangamatā, to Whiritoa in the south. Whangamatā is bounded by a renowned surf beach to the east and production pine forest and native bush to the west. The permanent population of around 5000 comprised of retirees and families swells to around 70,000 over the summer Christmas New Year period, when absentee owners and holiday makers flood the town. Water sports (surfing, fishing, boating etc) are a considerable attraction to town as well as tramping, bush walking and annual events such as the Beachhop Rock n Roll and classic car Festival, fishing tournaments, and road (marathon / biking) events. A boating Marina and recreational and sports clubs cater for most preferences.
Whangamatā enjoys a relaxed lifestyle. See www.whangamatainfo.co.nz
